Creating the Webhook
We’ll use Instagram as our example. You’ll want to navigate to the “Create” button on IFTTT and ensure it’s on “Classic” mode. Then next to “If This” you’ll press “Add” and select Instagram. We’re going to set up a simple webhook – once you become more comfortable with IFTTT you can set up some more specific webhooks using hashtags, but for now we’re going to just select “New photo by you.” You can connect your Instagram account to IFTTT through this screen or from your account dashboard – then select the account you’d like to link then add it. It will take you back to the Applet screen and you’ll press “Add” next to “Then that” and select the social media you want your Instagram post to repost to, we’ll use X (Twitter) as an example. Select “Post a tweet with image” and leave the default settings as they are. You can select the + to add another place to repost to or you can create the Applet by pressing “Continue.” Select “Finish” on the review screen and now every time you post a photo to Instagram it will automatically create a new post on X with your photo and caption. If you use hashtags in the caption on Instagram, they will automatically carry over to your X post as well so try to use hashtags that make sense on both platforms.
The webhook run time is not instantaneous and the program runs at random intervals so give the service anywhere from 10-30 minutes to automatically repost your post.
