Cams.com follows Streamate’s lead, “fires” models from California

Cam site Cams.com has quietly terminated models who live in California, and is no longer accepting models from the state as of January 1, 2020. When their model help phone line was called, the support representative confirmed that models residing in the state of California were no longer able to work on Cams.com. The rep also clarified that the change was due to the California AB5 law. When asked if Cams.com or Streamray (their model recruiting arm) was operating a third party business similar to Streamate’s “Cal Gems” operation that would hire Californian models as employees, the rep responded that Cams.com does not have any such business, but that models could sign up under other studios in such a way. The rep was unable to name any studios that would offer such an arrangement.
