Camgirls: Instagram Privacy Risks and Concerns

Instagram: Not An Adult-Friendly Social Media Site

Ah, Instagram. Instagram is currently a very powerful social media network. Especially now that many companies are paying Instagram users with a large follower count to endorse their product. Instagram continually attracts people both for marketing themselves as well as for business opportunities.

But, is Instagram safe for adult performers? That is certainly the question.

Instagram is Owned by Facebook

First and foremost, Instagram is owned by Facebook. Facebook is known to be extremely anti-adult and it’s recommended to not be on Facebook as any kind of adult performer. That said, Instagram seems to be slightly less strict… but not by much.

Instagram Removes Adult Performers

Many adult performers have gotten their accounts removed by Instagram with no explanation. The general consensus is that Instagram removes them because they are accounts of adult performers. However, others state that Instagram removes only those adult performers who link (directly or indirectly) to their various adult websites and/or services.

Many adult performers express their disappointment about Instagram on Twitter, stating that they only post content within the rules but they are removed from the site because they are sex workers. They cite that many other non-sex workers post very sexy and revealing content but they are not removed because they are not sex workers.

The bottom line here is to only use Instagram acknowledging the possibility that your account may be (perhaps unfairly) removed at any time.

Some sex workers get their accounts back. Some do not and choose to start all over. So, you need to be okay with the possibility that either of these may happen to you as an adult performer on Instagram.

Safety for Adult Performers On Instagram

One important thing to note is how to use Instagram safely, as Instagram is known for connecting to your personal contacts. Put another way, Instagram can, and will, connect with your real life, personal friends and family. Even if you do not give Instagram permission to connect with anything nor give Instagram your phone number or any other information and/or permissions.

Remember, on Instagram, simply using your adult performer email, not giving Instagram permission to connect to anything and not giving Instagram your phone number is NOT enough!

Many adult performers have stated that Instagram recommends that they suggested to add their real life friends and family on the platform, even though they did not connect Instagram to their Facebook, their contacts or anything else.

I have personally confirmed that you cannot use Instagram on a devise that has any connection whatsoever to your personal life. This includes any social media accounts, especially Facebook, and any e-mail, especially Gmail.

Therefore, you must use a completely separate devise for Instagram, that has absolutely nothing else on it. No email, no social media, nothing. This could be a different phone and/or tablet. Remember, Instagram does not work unless it is on a phone or tablet. It is not something you can upload content to in a web browser.

After Connecting to Instagram Safely

Now that you are on Instagram, this is just the beginning. Always be extra careful. Never link to adult websites and/or services and do proper hashtag research for your posts.

It has been rumored that certain hashtags are likely to increase your chances at your content and/or account being removed. Many adult related hashtags simply do not work, for example.

More Instagram Privacy Concerns

It is also wise to understand that the fact that many people used Instagram is a double edged sword. One on side, it can be great for traffic and exposure. On the other side, that same exposure can get you “outed” to people you may not want to know about your adult job. This is especially true if you use generic hashtags that aren’t specifically adult.

Another important feature to note is the fact that you cannot block private message. This tends to invite unsolicited dick pictures among many other negative messages and time wasters. It is best to be prepared for the worst in this area.

Is Instagram Necessary For Webcam Models?

Remember, Instagram isn’t necessary and many adult performers choose not to use it. By far, in my opinion, the most important social media tool at this time to use is Twitter (not Instagram). Instagram certainly isn’t for everyone but it is my hope that this article helped you to decide if Instagram is right for you. If it is, do stay safe! 🙂
