Burnout Happens; How do you know if you’re suffering from it?

Adult industry burnout happens very frequently because it’s super easy to work yourself into burnout when you don’t have set hours, set schedules, and no “off switch” for communicating with clients. Many people within the adult industry experience burnout so if you find yourself experiencing some burnout symptoms then you should know you are not alone and it is super common. How can you assess if you’re experiencing burnout related to your adult work?

  • Being angry at customers for things that normally do not cause you to be angry
  • Feeling frustrated during production of content for seemingly no reason
  • Loss of interest in things you typically enjoy doing
  • Lacking motivation to get things done
  • Oversleeping or not sleeping enough
  • Overeating or not eating enough
  • Becoming overwhelmed and unable to perform when thinking of your to-do list
  • Experiencing anxiety around getting ready to work or while working
  • Becoming annoyed easily, even at small inconveniences
  • Feeling sick or physically unwell
  • Experiencing headaches or migraines that you did not experience previously
  • Feeling like you aren’t in control of your ability to get things done

While experiencing burnout, you may experience all of those symptoms or just a few. If you find yourself struggling with burnout and dealing with any of the listed symptoms it is important to take steps to ensure you can get mentally healthy to approach work in a functional way that doesn’t further harm your mental health.

I’m experiencing burnout, how can I fix it?

There is no “one size fits all” solution for fixing burnout because your burnout could be entirely from work or it could be a combination of work and personal issues. Since everyone works differently and lives differently there is no perfect solution for every case of adult performer burnout. But we do have some suggestions that will help to lessen the negative effects of burnout!

  • Talk to a friend about what you’re experiencing
  • Take time off if you are able to without financially compromising yourself
  • Streamline your marketing and posting processes with queuing
  • Adjust your schedule to give yourself more time off for a few weeks
  • Assign yourself “off days” where you go entirely no contact with work, even on social media etc.
  • Take breaks every 1-2 hours while streaming or filming and do something you enjoy
  • Do NOT work 7 days a week, assign yourself minimum 1 day off per week
  • Try a new schedule if your current one is frustrating you
  • Write down your to-do list so you don’t forget things and get overwhelmed
  • Set goals that are within your control (hours that you work, videos you get filmed, etc.)
  • Take a break from accepting custom content requests which can cause anxiety due to delivery windows

When overcoming burnout it is important to not only fix it, but to address the root of it

While fixing your burnout is obviously a huge priority, once you do start to feel better and less stressed out due to it, it is important to address the things that are causing your burnout in the first place. The greatest solution to not experiencing burnout is to ensure that you’re not reaching that level of stress in the first place. Think about when you started to feel stressed or anxious and what led you to those feelings. Do you have a regular customer that causes you stress that may be worthwhile to block? Are you working too much and not giving yourself breaks? Are you not streamlining enough of your workflow? Are you getting involved in unnecessary community drama that is stressing you out? Are you spending too much time on social media and not enough online or creating content? Find what leads to your negative feelings and try to eliminate it from your life for your mental health!
